Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has announced a massive award for 1,400 schools across the Sunshine State.

On Monday, DeSantis (R-Fla.) said that Florida has allocated $200 million in school recognition rewards for well-deserving schools that have demonstrated student growth and teaching excellence this past year. To be eligible for funding, schools must have received an ‘A’ grade or improved at least one letter grade from the previous year.

“These funds can be used in a variety of ways,” DeSantis explained. “You can provide bonuses to teachers and staff members. You can also use the money for equipment and other kinds of materials to help assist student performance. You can also use that to bring in temporary personnel now if you need that as well.”

The Florida governor said that schools affected by Hurricane Ian have showed strong performance, noting that funds may also come in handy to assist in those areas.
